IH656D - Tranny Noise

I have been working through the kinks on my 68 IH656D. The
tractor is running pretty well, but the tranny is noisy in 2nd and
3rd. The tractor has a TA (stuck in direct) and the five speed
regular transmission. I would described the noise as a low
rumble, not really a grinding but leaning that direction. Not
something I like to hear in a tranny.

I intended to split the tractor after this season to fix the TA issue
but am wondering if I need to do something sooner. 1st is
pretty darn slow and 4th is awful fast......any chance this is just
an adjustment problem?
