I installed a 12 alternator on a "C" farmall with a magneto using Robert Melville guidelines. It has a switch and a warning light. It has worked for several years without any problems. I decided to use the same system on another tractor(it's red) because I didn't like the way the 6 volt starter was working after I had it overhauled. This tractor has a distributor. It charges OK but the new alternator squeals when charging. Tried two alternator. Took the second one back and it bench checked OK. It doesn't squeal when it isn't charging, just when I engage the sw or increase RPM. The amp gauge shows 5 to 10 amps which is not over charging. I did soap the belt just in case that was the problem. I don't know what the problem is and just hope I don't burn up the alternator. I welcome any comments.
