Don't think 4 or 6 cylinder will make bit of difference. Series of tractors between doner and recieptiant will probably have more bearing on the match. Just as an example 504 with D-188 engine is just 4 cylinders of a D-282 used in 560 and 656. I'd be willing to bet those tachs are identical. Your 400 comes from another blood line.
