544 axle slop

Lifted the front end up with the loader and safety blocked. About 1/4" of play for the front axle between the bolster. I found no cracks in bolster.The axle seems tight on the shaft and moved freely. Shaft does not seem broke. I assume cast wont bend. I did how ever find a lot of slop in the part that the torsion bars( at least that is what I call them) mount to the frame. There is a peice that goes through a small block that is bolted to the frame. This small short shaft appears to go into the back of the center of the torsion bar is. Does any one know if this is supposed to be tight, one peice . I was unable to get a pic this am and if no one responds knowing what I mean I will try to get a pic posted later today. My father wants to use the 544 at his place today to pull down some 100 year old oaks to cut into post or grade wood. County widening road and we dont wanna see em dozed into a pile and burned. Just want to make sure tractor is safe to use. Thanks in advance to all the good people on this site.
