The filter screen is behind the square plate on the left side of the unit held by four bolts where the temperature guage probe inserts. You will probably have to take the steering linkage loose to remove the screen. Be sure to loosen the fill cap at the top of the unit BEFORE pulling the drain plug. These units are not vented and a small amount of pressure build up causes the fluid to spew forth violently. Hytran is the correct fluid.
