Navistar did not buy the truck division of IH. Navistar is in fact the same company that was IH. When IH sold the Agriculture division to Tenneco, Tenneco also got rights to the IH symbol so they changed the name of the company to Navistar. My IH stock was re-issued as Navistar shares. The bad part was that Navistar was still responsible for all the obligations of IH, including all the pensions and debt service. Really dragged the stock down. IH quit making pickup trucks in about 1975 and stopped Scout production about 1980. The Ford Bronco was designed as a copy of the scout (Red Power Magazine article). I doubt that the Scout/Bronco type design could survive today without major revisions. I had 2 Scouts and loved them, but there were many things about them that could have been improved on.
