I am no expert and my opinion carries no more weight or value than anyone else. But, I have been told that WD40 is really a Water Displacement formula and although it has lubricant qualities it does not perform for any period of time. I used to use it on door hinges on the vehicles and I was finding that two or three days later I was hearing squeeks again. WD40 dries out quickly and is a poor choice as a lubricant. It works very well for displacing moisture..spray a wet distributor cap, wipe it off and it will fire, it is a good starting fluid and will fire a small engine when it is flooded but it does not have sustained lubricating qualities like a good petroleum based lubricant. In our shop we used a product called "MOVE_IT" which sprayed on would loosen siezed bolts overnight and we swore by it. There are lots of good penetrating products on the market but WD 40 isn't one of them in my opinion. If you are happy with it by all means use it but it has not satisfied my requirements.
