My 1941 H, with the same idea of trans., had the pilot bearing going out in about a weeks time. I didn't notice until splitting it three times that the main drive gear had a severely wore surface that the bearing rides in. I just took the gear out, had it ground to a size bigger, and had a larger bearing put in. It was a quick and cheap fix (new gear $250) but it may not hold up to tractor pulling. So check the inside of the main gear that the pilot bearing rides in, and maybe the shims on the other end of the shaft by the diff.
