I think that preference was part of it but the real conclusion that I've come to is that the reason for the narrow fron was to create less ground compaction that would have resulted if the front wheels were followed in the same trail by the rear wheels. With the narrow front, each wheel, front and back, used a separate trail. With the wide front, the back wheels followed the front, resulting in more compaction. The previous respondent was also right that the narrow front turned much sharper than the wide front. I grew up with a w6. You could hardly steer it. I recently bought a Farmall M. I can't believe how easy it is to steer. Respond to my response. Does my explanation make sense? It does to me. Sincerely, Rod
