Well, the rims and wheels were a bit of challenge. The rims themselves were painted steel and really heavy, at least compared with modern wheels. In addition, they were missing a bunch of spokes. In the end, I decided to replace them with a new set, which was a good idea until I found out that this bike uses a "skip tooth" chainring and rear cog. I now know that skip tooth components disappeared in the '50s or roundabouts, and that was a problem because I had discarded the old wheels with the rear cog. (Hard lesson learned...ug)

EBay came to the rescue, though -- I found an old cog gear online, but of course it didn't fit on a modern hub. So, I ground down the teeth of the cog gear on the new wheel and welded the antique cog onto the new one. A little work on the spacers on the new hub to fit the double-thick cog, and I was in business.
