I don't wanna be an alarmist, but did you measure your journals before you put in new bearings?

You didn't just throw in an undersize set of inserts to "compensate for wear" did you?

Washing babbitt throws a grey color as well. Although, after 2 hours of running time, you should be picking up some noise if this were the culprit.
