Doesnt sound like a very good restoration if the plugs are loading up (rich carb mix/flooding) and the oil is full of water/moisture.I wonder if water got down the muffler and rusted the rings up?
Being partial to 300s,I would recommend supplementing the Ford with a 300/350U...you may find yourself using that one more than the N.
