W6 loose steering repair.....

I just bushed all the wore stearing arms on my W6. Everything is tight from the stearing box forward, there is still eight inches of free-play in the wheel. I am not going to get into changing gears in the box, but is there an easy way to just to move the gears so they "bite" at a different spot, like can be done to some of the M's?
