Yep, they are beaters to get out sometimes and then a person wonders, when the O-Rings are well lubed, what is wrong and why when they slide in and set so much easier. That seems to be the norm.
I recall from years ago when I rebuilt torpedoe engines that the easier the sleeve 'snapped' into place the better the seal as the rubber seal either rolled or slid equally around the sleeve. If the O-Ring pinched and/or the sleeve was very hard to set, it meant the O-Ring had twisted because it wasn't lubed enough or it had caught on something as it was pressed in.
