Correct Size of 400D?

I think I have seen 2 engine sizes listed for a 400 diesel. Was that an IH production modification or is the larger engine reference just the overbore modification anyone could have have done over the years? Also, what injector pumps went on the 400s' and what determined what brand? Thanks!
