Take the cap, rotor, and dust cover off of the distributor and grab onto the end of the shaft. If you can wobble it up/down-side-to-side more than .025-.030 I'd say you have excessive wear. You can get new shafts (I think) through Case-IH), but you also may have bushing wear that the shaft rides in. Ask your dealer's shop foreman for advice on this as well. I went with a new (Prestolite) distributor on my '48 M as new IH dist's are no longer available. FB
