Erik, The Farmall 656 was available in both conventional gear drive with or without TA, or with a hydrostatic drive. The gas engine was the 263 (262.5) cu inch six cylinder and the diesel was the 282 (281.3) cu in six cylinder. On the gear drives the engine turned 1800 rpm and yielded 54.94 db hp and 63.85 pto hp for the gas (test # 909) and 54.90 db hp and 61.52 pto hp for the diesel (test # 912). On the hydrostatic models the engine turned 2300 rpm and yielded 52.12 db hp and 66.06 pto hp on the gas (test # 967) and 51.88 db hp and 65.80 pto hp on the diesel (test # 968). The 656 was available in four configurations: the International, the International Row Crop, the Farmall, and the Farmall Hi-Clear. We sold several of the Farmall and Farmall Hi-Clear tractors and they were very good tractors. The hydrostatic drive was especially good for pto applications where you need to vary the speed. The gear drive was better for hard pulling work. They were built from 65 to 72. I think the hydrostatic drive was introduced 67 or 68. Harold H

Up to about 1958 the dairy cows were fed hay with some turnips and after that grass silage was the main winter feed. That same year was the last in which flax was grown on the farm. Flax provided the fibre which w
