LIttle cover? You mean the little dust cover over the end of the bearing? No, you can't get at the brakes that way. The brake bands are just outside the transmission. You need to take the final drive off at the transmission. On the right side, the differential shaft housing comes off with the final drive. Wait til you get the manuals, it will be pretty clear. The final drives are a gear drive.
