Changed the bull pinion seal and brakes (left side) on my 300U today. One thing I noticed,IH made a well for oil to catch in,and bored 2 holes for the oil to return to the gearcase. However, mine were plugged with crap oil,and the well was full of gunk.So every drop that leaked past the seal, made it to the brake. The seal was original NATIONAL with IH part #s,and looked to be a leathery material. The spring behind it was stretched out so it was doing no good at all.I hate to think all the other seals are original too.Especially the one behind the clutch.Makes me double think filling it with Hy Tran (when I drain the old oil out).
