For a simple corn and bean planter, the older JD stuff is hard to beat. They made a lot of them, they are cheap, reliable, and you can still get parts for them. 290, 490, 494(5?), 70, 71, etc. I'm sure IH and Allis made something along the same line in the late 40s to the early 70s. A vegetable transplanter was (and still is) made by Holland and Mechanical. There are lots of one and two row units in vegetable growing areas. I think that a tobacco transplanter is similar, but have never seen one. The new style transplanter is called a water wheel and it can go through plastic (don't have one of those either).
