The engine turns clockwise when viewed from the front, M and MD.

Starter rotation may be described as viewed from the rear of the starter but I don't know.

Why don't you have an automotive starter shop rebuild your starter?

I've had good luck with good shops, take your starter in and have them look at it and show you what they want to do.
