It was an after market "overdrive" (sometimes referred to as a 9 speed transmission - 5th gear is not affected) It was addded to make 1st - 4th faster than regular 4th but less than 5th. It also increased the PTO and not sure about belt speed. It is great for hauling wagons, harrowing, rotory hoeing or other relative high speed farming operations. It is engaged when the clutch is depressed. Hope that helps. Most of us like it for an option. My nickel Dcik Davis
