About Allan's 3-point picture

In a picture you posted below I notice the end of the bottom arms has a catch similar to the one on on a Fasthitch. I remember that all the big Farmalls with which I was familiar ('06, '56 models, after those I fell off the planet for a few decades.)had that.
I thought then that these were so that you could take them out and still use your old Fasthitch implements.Is that right, or was it to make it easy to switch between Cat. 1, 2, and 3 implements? Or something else?
