I wouldn't think a flat top piston would hit the head since it only comes up to the top of the block. But if you had the valves timed wrong, you could have a valve sticking down into the firing chamber at TDC instead of being closed. Also, at least for H's and M's, distillate heads and gas heads have different valves, maybe the longer one got put in your head. Does the tractor run or do you just hear it when you crank it over?
