Put your volt meter leads on the battery posts and
run the engine at 1/2 throttle or above. The volt meter should read between 13.5 to 14.5 volts
with the engine running. If you have voltage readings in these areas, your alternator is ok.
You may need to check that ballast resistor to be sure it isn't defective. Hal
