A Pertronix unit IS less sensitive to a little distributor shaft play than are points.
It all depends on how you intend to use the tractor. If will be used hard and many hours a year, best fix it RIGHT, however, for occasional or light use,you'll be just fine with the Pertronix and a LITTLE play.
Even with the Pertronix, if you were to look at the ignition waveform with a 'scope you would see SOME "spark scatter".
