Hi Marshall, the first indication of air in the hydraulics on that style of tractor is spongy brakes or having to pump the brakes. How cold is cold, -20F, 0F ? My brother uses his 495D (same hydraulics) every day to feed round bales. The hydraulics make some noise when it starts but last only a couple minutes and that is in -20F weather. I would check your hydraulic filter and the hydraulic fuild for water or ice cyrstals. Although IH Hytran is supposed to have an anti-water agent. I believe the noise you hear is the hydraulic fluid being forced thru the relief/bypass valve. Good luck JB2
