One or two things has happened , one ya had a piston start to sezze or a bearing is going south for the winter , Now as for just swappen out and engine well a 221 thru 301 gasser will fit or ya can put a 282 D in it or the best money is fix what ya have then ya know what ya got and do it wright the first time it only cost a dollar more to go first class and it should outlast you.
