You can adjust till you are blue in the face the fact is you need to start repairing . First ya need to replace the as i call them the cubcadet tie rod ends all the headed pins then you need to pull the op cover on the range transmission and the side plate , the side plate need to come off before you pull the top so you can watch the rev. shifter rod and fork as you come up whith the top cover . Then you need to see just where all the movement is and fix or replace what is wore out . The rod that goes into the rev. shifting fork is wore out in the key slot and needs to be replaced and you may find that you have some rollers that are missing . the top cover is probably wore bad and can be rebushed but you will have to find a machine shop that knows what they are doing to get it centered up and make a bushing and rebore the hole on center all slop must be removered you can buy and aftermarket cover but i pefer to install a bushing in the old. look at the cam and see just how bad it is and replace if you have to , the shaft that goes into the cam is probably wore and will need to be replaced . All this has started from the hard shifting because the clutch linkage was not kept in adjustment and the dump vavle got out of wak and made for hard shifting and people just started to ram it . When everything is set right they shift nice.
