The auxiliary wiring plug terminals should be clearly marked with �1� and �2� on the alternator. If the terminals are not marked, or if they are marked �R� and �F� it�s not an internally regulated alternator and it will not work wired this way.

If you DO have an internally regulated alternator, it�s wired correctly and the warning lamp stays dark the cause is either a bad alternator or a burned out bulb.

Electrically it won�t harm the alternator for it to touch the sheet metal. However over time vibration will wear a hole in the alternator frame or thru the sheet metal where they touch. Instead put a bit of padding � like a piece of rubber floor mat � between the alternator and the hood to separate them.
