hi john, others can advise you if you should retorque the head, but i do know that once you torque a head gasket it is compressed, and if you loosen the bolts it will be useless, and must be replaced, im just not sure if the extra 20 ft lbs will stres anything, those old ih's are tuff, just wait for cowman or somebody, they'll know, ericlb
