300 won't run

I have a 300 row crop. I can't get it to run. It's been converted to 12V. It has a ballast resister and the 6 volt ignition. When I try to start it, it fires right off, but won't keep running after I turn the key off from the "start" position. I thought that it may be something with the ignition wiring, so I ran a jumper from the battery to the resister. No difference! It's getting gas, I'm sure of that 'cause if I choke it for a while, it starts to drip. I had the carbureator rebuilt, and it ran fine after that. There was a problem with the alternator, but I got it running after fixing that and it started right up and the ammeter showed a good charge. Any Ideas?
