That has happened to me acouple times. I forget what coupler combination caused it though. I think it was IH"s pointed tip females on the tractor and I had pioneers with the ball males. Anyhow, a if you combine them a certain way it locks up like you describe. If it were me, I"d buy male couplers like ones you know works and put the new ends right on the hoses...........Ditch those adapters. They are a PITA IMO.
