Two different courses of action come to mind here. One- do like the other posters said and figure out a nice friendly way to let him know that the test he did doesn't jive with your manual...maybe say something like
"Hey, here's something interesting I'd like you to look at and give me your professional opinion on. This manual shows this and....etc... Maybe they printed the manual wrong? What do you think?"
Otherwise, tell him that if the pump's still "so-so" that you'll go ahead and use it like it is for now since you don't plan to use it super-hard anyway.
