Yes, as others have stated you may have an issue with sludge developing as your engine starts to clean itself out.

I usually run straight 10-10W in my M in the winter but if it gets below -20 F I will even go to 5W-20 in the winter here in the SD tundra. I've never seen any problems with the light oil in the winter unless you are doing consistant extremely heavy loads. In the summer 15W-40 or 30 weight is a good choice.
