Farmal A leaky head gasket-whats the fix?

I'm new to tractors but bought a Farmal A that needed some work. The head gasket was leaking oil so I carefully replaced the gasket with a new one and torgued it to 80 ft/lbs. I ran it for a short time to get the engine hot, the after cooling re-torqued it again. Still leaks.
Now I'm beginning to think that maybe that was a common problem with the "A"s and those engines. Am I right or is there a fix?... Mike
