300U/C169 Alternator Conversion

I have fabricated a mounting bracket for a 10SI GM alternator (1 wire),I now have a problem with fabricating an adjusting lever that will meet up with the factory strap.I also fear the new alternator is going to stick out too far to the side and hit the hood (when I put that back on) without cutting a chunk out of it.Anybody else mount a GM alternator on a 300U? And if so,how did it fit? (I know the belt is going to have to be quite a bit shorter).
