Thanks mbnok the handle is already quite long so maybe ill get a restrictor valve as that would not alter the pumping flow I am thinking a cheap restrictor valve would be a typical plumbing check valve (one way valve) with a hole driled in the flap. At university we were shown such a system can be used to reduce electric motor cycling (repeatedly going on and off) when a centrifugal pump is connected to a pressure cylinder, forgot about that untill you mentioned restrictor valve.
