IH made the modification to the steering knuckle after serial #26457. It included lengthing the steering gear arms at the gear box from 8-1/2" to 11" which might have maintained the original turning radius while making the steering work easier (you'd have to do some calculations or maybe a test to confirm this). Keeping everything well greased and fluid in the gear box helps a lot for either setup. Glad to hear you got the manuals. I never could find the magic x marks for adjusting the PTO, either. I've fiddled with this adjustment quite a bit, and the best way I've found to do it is: - turn the engine off, - back the PTO brake band screw out until it isn't doing anything, - put the handle into the PTO-disengaged position, - tighten the drive band adjustment screw until you get to the point where you can't turn the PTO shaft by hand anymore - then back it off just a bit more than enough so that you can turn the shaft by hand again, - then tighten the brake adjustment band up until you can't turn the PTO shaft by hand, - turn the engine on and tighten the brake adjustment band up some more (shouldn't be much more) until the PTO shaft stops turning; I adjust at low idle, and double-check at high idle. Basic idea is to get the thing adjusted so that one band or the other, but not both, is gripping when the handle is at either extreme. Hope the above is helpful (it works for me). You want to be a bit careful doing this adjustment. If you get it to where both bands are gripping at the same time, they're going to wear out quickly (if you're lucky) or something is going to break (if you're not lucky). Good luck.

Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o
