Farmall H counter shaft oil seal

dropped belly pump to rebuild and noticed a possible oil leak from the counter shaft. Was wondering, can I pull off the counter shaft front bearing retainer and replace the gasket and the counter shaft oil seal without getting into the transmission while I have access to it through the belly pump housing? Any tricks that I need to be aware of? Is the transmission counter shaft nut left handed threads or standard?
