Farmall H, My Dist. rebuild from last night?

Ok. I was able to rebuild the Dist. this evening. When I took it apart I noticed the coil, it was a 6-Volt coil. Ok so here was the original setup that came with it. Apparently it had a 12 volt battery, a 6-volt starter motor, 6 volt coil, dist. and an alternator. I am confused now, as to what set up he had, and or what type I should set up. I will run a 12 volt set-up, but I am curious about the altenator, and if the 6 volt coil set -up could have hurt it in anyway. O ya, Can I run the 6-volt lights that I have on the tractor with the 12 volt set up, minus the resistor., or can I just change out the bulbs into a 12 volt setup somehow??
