clutch on 606

When I bolt the clutch to the flywheel on the 606, the
clutch fingers draw up tight to the plate and do not
extend out far enough for the throwout bearing to
engage them to dis engage the clutch. Mechanic says
the flywheel has to be milled down as the fingers
cannot be adjusted. Can one maybe shim the plate up
somehow? Please jump in with any suggestions and
advice. Thanks.
