Van is right, I have never had the copper fuel line crack on my '53 JD 60 and I've had it 23 years. I also have a '31 Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck with the original copper fuel lines still in use, never any cracks. I have heard this copper cracking wive's tale all my life and have yet to see the first one. I guess it would be possible if the nuts are tightened many, many times so that the tube becomes work hardened at the nut but that can easily be annealed to make it dead soft again.
