The old '51 Farmall M has a 12v battery and installed as negative ground. I wanted to check all wiring to see if this was intentional, as the tractor does start but does not charge the battery. It has an original style generator, model 1100501 I believe. Traced generator's A-terminal wire to voltage regulator's "gen" clip, OK. That's where all logic ends. Everything else is reversed. Found loose wire at ammeter, repaired. Still not charging correctly. Ammeter does not have easily identifiable "+" and "-" markings. Which side of ammeter is which? Bought new 6v tractor battery, wiring harness. Once new battery and wires installed, how do I know if my generator is set to charge a 6v correctly as the ammeter may also be suspect? Generator is 3 brushes. Light switch also does not seem to activate the lights (bulbs ok). Decals worn off. What are all settings on light switch? Any help greatly appreciated.
