By gas engine you do mean gasoline, and not natural gas or propane gas engines. There are specific oils for natural gas or propane engines but that is mostly oil field or irrigation stuff. I've got a drum of oil for gas engines but I can't remember if it even has an API designation. And in reference to IH Rob's post, all automobile oils you can buy are detergent unless they specifically state non-detergent and I believe those non-detergent oils that are labelled are labelled API SA
