My dad used a 560 gas on a NH Super69 baler and did 8-10 thousand bales a year and only took out one TA in 10,000 hours. His thought (and I agree) on why TA went out was that too many people either didn"t use them enough (he used the TA to slow down on the ends of the field when he was plowing and cultivating rather than throttle down the engine) and the rollers in the over-running clutch got sticky, or they "babied" them too much by moving the lever too slow between direct and TA. His reasoning was that the planetary main clutch drug a bit, not allowing the rollers to bite right away causing them to wear a bit. Another theory is that going down hill with the TA pulled on the older ones caused the over-running clutch to run, wearing the rollers down causing them to not be able to function correctly. Another no-no is to be shifting gears (like 4th to 5th) pull the TA and just dump the clutch. This brutalizes those rollers, and can cause them to fail also. Just some thoughts, Im not afraid to use mine, and have little if any trouble with them.
