Cork pushed through the belly bolt holes is harmless. Lots of empty space in there. The holes in the final drives are blind holes. They also had cork in them. Some original owners apparently pushed the cork into them with a result that the bolts have very little thread to catch. Use a 3/8" bit in cordless drill (run slowly) to clean those blind holes and blow them out with compressed air. Stop drilling if any metal chips come out.
