While I realize those old gassers didn't measure up well compared to the diesels, I think it should do better than 3x14. I had a 560D and pulled a No.60 4x16 plow, tractor just played with it. My neighbor had 5x16 trailer plow and pulled it with a Cockshutt 570. Now I realize in sandy loam we had quite easy plowing. I went from the No. 60 plow to a No. 510 5x16 semimount plow and pulled that with 656D. Yes, I quite often plowed in 2nd gear with the 656, but do you realize a 656 pulling 5x16 in 2nd gear will plow more land per hour than it will pulling 4x16 in 3rd gear. Same can be said between 3rd and 4th. The wear and breakage on the plow will be far less below 3.5 mph. 3 to 5 mph is just about what the plows we are discussing are engineered for. Sometimes I wonder just how fast some of these guys are trying to plow.
