Is it OK to mix oils ...?

Is it OK to mix hydraulic/transmission fluid with engine oil, as I don`t know what is already in the transmission ? Is the only solution to drain the oil out? Also, where is the filler for the transmission on an IH 484 Diesel (1980)? Kev
