If she's trying to fire, I wouldn't suspect the pump just yet. You need to try two other things first. 1- make sure all of your glowplugs work. Like the other guys said, they are extremely important. Those 236's and 282's won't start on the hottest day in July without at least 15 seconds on the glowplugs, and I'm not joking. 236's were the worst, the tank heater is a very good idea on a 50 degree day. 2- Play around with that shut-off lever. Try starting it with the lever all the way one direction, then try it all the way the other direction. Timing is not the problem, unless someone had that pump off, put it back on, and didn't even try to start it. Might also want to try bleeding it one more time.
